Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
